How to Get More Followers on Pinterest by Utilizing Board Covers

Justin Cron

I think we’ve all realized that one of the hardest things to do on any social network is growing your followers. In order for any personal brand or company to be successful in the marketplace, growing their followers is key. Unlike other social networks, Pinterest has designed an addictive and beautiful website interface that allows us as content creators to be as creative as possible. We can pin other peoples content, upload our own, promote affiliate ads and much more.

Each time that I log in to my Pinterest account and view other profiles, even those who have hundreds of thousands of followers, I notice that they aren’t taking advantage of Pinterest Board Covers. If you’re going to be successful as a social marketer on Pinterest, you’re going to need to create the most stunning experience for your followers. Pinterest isn’t just another place to hoard as many followers as you can, share selfishly and promote only your brand.

So how do we use the Pinterest board covers to better organize our boards? In order to make this work, you’ll need to create a new board or have a board already created.

  1. Go to Pinterest, once on your profile, hover over the red circle with the plus sign in the top right of your screen and select “Upload image” from the dropdown list.
  2. Click the “upload image” button and select the image from your computer that you’d like to be your main cover image for that board. Make sure to enter a destination URL if you have one. Adding a destination URL will allow someone to be directed to your website, social network or product you’re promoting when they click this pinned image. After uploading your image and entering a destination URL, click the red continue button and you’ll be able to enter the image description. Make sure to save the uploaded image to the board that you’d like to make it the cover image for.
  3. After uploading the image, hover over your profile image in the top right corner and select “My Profile” from the dropdown list.
  4. Now that you are on your profile page and can see your boards, hover over the board that you’d like to add an attractive cover to. You’ll notice a little pencil that shows up to the right under the board you’re hovering over (just like in the image below). Click the pencil to edit that particular boards details.
  5. After clicking the little pencil to edit the board, you’ll notice a pop-up window where you can update the name of your board, description, the category that you’d like the board to fall under and of course, the cover image. Click the “Change” button next to the “cover” option.
  6. You should now see another pop-up that looks similar to the image bellow. If you recently uploaded your cover image to the board, you should automatically see the image already displayed on your screen. If you don’t see the image you’d like to use then hit the grey arrow to the right of the image till you find the one you’d like to use. Click the red “save” button, go back to your board page, hit the refresh button on the browser window and you should now see your new image beautifully displayed as the first image on that board. This cover image will never change until you decide to change it.
I hope this article has helped you understand how to use board cover images on Pinterest. Uploading a custom image for each board will make it easier for you user to understand what it is that you’re offering without having to navigate into your boards to get that message.
